SPOV were approached by 343 Industries to rebrand their Halo Support website, a site that offers players the opportunity to interact directly with the developers. The project was a four week engagement that was to include the main brand development (logo and wordmark), website design and engineering which also included main banner art and icons. We were also to provide two visually different options that would help separate the main ‘Support’ site from the ‘Insider’ (members) variant.

The initial brief was to ‘theme’ the design of both the branding and banner art around the idea of “Boots on the Ground” – Marines helping Spartans”, centralising the direction around the ‘UNSC Marine Corps’ to create a solution that would sit within this area of the ‘Halo Universe’.
With an adjustment to the overarching direction midway through the project, the team adopted a more agnostic design approach that would encompass the ‘Halo Universe’ rather than just a specific part of it.
The team rose to the challenge and we able to refocus and apply this new approach within the short timeframe remaining. Working closely with the client and using their knowledge of the franchise, we were able to create a solution that was not only functional, but would aesthetically resonate with the players.
The banner artwork would be one of the key visual elements of the re-brand, for this part of the project we wanted to carry through the themes we had been exploring for the logo to create a unified and consistent language.
We wanted to initially create a more abstract approach to the banner art. For this route we wanted to look at the idea of representing the side of a metal box or armour plating along with stencilling and distressed textures.
A major part of the project for us was to redesign and develop the current support site. A user ticketing system was in-place to run alongside the FAQ/Q&A side of the site, and we were required to provide custom solutions to adapt and enhance this system.
Working in conjunction with the 343 Industries team we created bespoke code and implementations that helped elevate their existing system and also introduce our design language.
